When you don't want to shell out the money or time for a professional massage, you can always exchange massages with your partner or a friend. It may not be quite as amazing as the massage you'd receive from a professional (because, let's face it, you don't have a few spare years to spend in massage school), but with these tips under your belt, it can be pretty darn good!
Always use massage oil.
Rubbing dry skin against dry skin just does not feel that great, and if you do it for long enough, you might end up with some brush burn. Avoid the urge to jump right in, and apply some massage oil before you start rubbing your friend's shoulders or back. It does not have to be a fancy oil. Even some coconut oil or olive oil from the kitchen will do the trick if you're in a pinch. Both of these are great for the skin.
Start at one point, and work your way down.
People who are new to the idea of giving massages tend to jump around from area to area. This haphazard approach means you're likely to miss important places. To give a more thorough massage, start at one end of the body part you're massaging, and work your way towards the other end. If you want to be super thorough, you can work from end to end twice.
Don't be afraid to apply a little pressure.
A lot of non-professional massage-givers use too light of a touch because they're afraid of hurting their subjects. A deep massage, however, is more rejuvenating and relaxing than one that barely skims the surface. Your partner will let you know if you're pressing too hard -- and then you can lighten up. You're unlikely to actually cause any damage by pressing too hard.
Use various massage techniques.
You will give a much more thorough massage if you use several different movements throughout the process. Don't just knead with your thumbs in circles the whole time. Knead with your thumbs for a while, then use your knuckles a bit, and then use some long, smoothing strokes. This variation allows you to work the muscles in a few different ways for more thorough relief and relaxation.
Like anything else, giving a good massage takes practice. Ask your partner what feels good, and what does not feel as good. You can take this feedback to heart and use it to hone your massage technique for next time. (For more information, you can contact Euro Spa Of Naples)
